Sarah's latest development... standing (at Month 7)

Since 2 weeks ago, little Sarah has been trying out standing without support, but it was only for a few seconds. Not easy to capture that moment too as it was such a short while.

Last Friday, she was standing, supported by the glass door at home... then she began to "let go" and look at me. It was a really cute sight but it was only recorded in my memory... no chance to take a picture or a video of it. She stood there for about 5 seconds. The look that she gave me was like... "Hey, check this out, mummy! I could staaaaaand!!! Coooooooooool!!!"

Way to go, Sarah! You make mummy proud! :)

[+video] Little Sarah loves eating porridge...

Thank God that Sarah has no problem eating. I heard of some mummies sharing of how difficult it is to wean their children... It's not easy handling this kind of situation... I can imagine the stress they have to go through too! I guess different parents experience different kinds of stress. Mine is definitely not about food. *phew*

Managed to shoot a short clip of little Sarah eating her porridge. Here, she's somewhat distracted by her surroundings... my mum & J (during their recent visit :p) and daddy, the cameraman... but good enough to share how much she enjoys her food. On a side note, she actually eats pretty fast and almost without pause! The only pauses were when mummy here had to wipe the area around her mouth every now and then during her feeds. :)

Little princess in dress... :)

It wasn't easy, trying to take photos of little Sarah... she's on the move... literally!!
Mummy here kept shouting, making weird sounds, trying to get her attention, panting here & there... it was a very tiring process indeed!
She must have thought I was playing with her! Hahaha...

I like this shot of daddy & little Sarah :)

That's our little princess in a pretty dress!

[Article] Infant first aid for choking and CPR: An illustrated guide

Article taken from babycentre

The following instructions are for babies younger than 12 months old.

Choking

Step 1: Assess the situation quickly.

If your baby is suddenly unable to cry or cough, something may be blocking her airway, and you'll need to help her get it out. She may make odd noises or no sound at all while opening her mouth, and her skin may turn bright red or blue.

If she's coughing or gagging, her airway is only partially blocked. In this case, let her continue to cough. Coughing is the most effective way to dislodge a blockage.

If your baby isn't able to cough up the object, ask someone to call 911 or the local emergency number while you begin back blows and chest thrusts (see step 2, below).

If you're alone with your baby, give two minutes of care, then call 911.

On the other hand, if you suspect that your baby's airway is closed off because her throat has swollen shut, call 911 immediately. Your baby may be having an allergic reaction — to something she ate or to an insect bite, for example — or she may have an infection, like croup.

Also call right away if your baby is at high risk for heart problems.

Step 2: Try to dislodge the object with back blows and chest thrusts.

If your baby can't clear her airway on her own and you believe something is trapped there, carefully position her facedown on your forearm with your hand supporting her head and neck. Rest the arm holding your baby on your thigh.

Support your baby so that her head is lower than the rest of her body. Then, using the heel of your hand, give her five firm and distinct back blows between her shoulder blades to try to dislodge the object.

Next, place your free hand (the one that had been delivering the back blows) on the back of your baby's head with your arm along her spine. Carefully turn her over while supporting her head and neck. Support your baby faceup with your forearm resting on your thigh, still keeping her head lower than the rest of her body.

Place the pads of two or three fingers just below an imaginary line running between your baby's nipples. To give a chest thrust, push straight down on the chest 1/2 inch to 1 inch, then allow the chest to come back to its normal position.

Give five chest thrusts. The chest thrusts should be smooth, not jerky.

Continue the sequence of five back blows and five chest thrusts until the object is forced out or your baby starts to cough. If she's coughing, let her try to cough up the object.

If your baby becomes unconscious at any time, she'll need modified CPR (see full instructions below).

Give her two rescue breaths. If the air doesn't go in (you don't see her chest rise), retilt her head and try two rescue breaths again.

If her chest still doesn't rise, give her 30 chest compressions. Look in her mouth and remove the object if you see it. Give her two more rescue breaths, repeat the chest compressions, and so on, until help arrives.

How to Give CPR

What is CPR?

CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation. This is the lifesaving measure you can take to save your baby if she shows no signs of life (breathing or movement).

CPR uses chest compressions and rescue breaths to circulate blood that contains oxygen to the brain and other vital organs until emergency medical personnel arrive. Keeping oxygenated blood circulating can help prevent brain damage — which can occur within a few minutes — and death.

Giving CPR isn't hard to do. Follow these steps:

Step 1: Check your baby's condition.

Is your baby conscious? Flick her foot or gently tap on her shoulder and call out. If she doesn't respond, have someone call 911 or the local emergency number. (If you're alone with your baby, give two minutes of care as described below, then call 911 yourself.)

Swiftly but gently place your baby on her back on a firm surface.

Make sure she isn't bleeding severely. If she is, take measures to stop the bleeding by applying pressure to the area. Do not administer CPR until the bleeding is under control.

Step 2: Open your baby's airway. Tilt your baby's head back with one hand and lift her chin slightly with the other. (You don't need to tilt an infant's head back very far to open her airway.)

Check for signs of life (movement and breathing) for no more than ten seconds.

To check for your baby's breath, put your head down next to her mouth, looking toward her feet. Look to see whether her chest is rising and listen for breathing sounds. If she's breathing, you should be able to feel her breath on your cheek.

Step 3: Give her two gentle breaths.

If your baby isn't breathing, give her two little breaths, each lasting just one second. Cover your baby's nose and mouth with your mouth and gently exhale into her lungs only until you see her chest rise.

Remember that a baby's lungs are much smaller than yours, so it takes much less than a full breath to fill them. Breathing too hard or too fast can force air into the infant's stomach or damage her lungs.

If her chest doesn't rise, her airway is blocked. Give her first aid for choking, above.

If the breaths go in, give your baby two breaths in a row, pausing between rescue breaths to let the air flow back out.

Step 4: Give her 30 chest compressions.

With your baby still lying on her back, place the pads of two or three fingers just below an imaginary line running between your baby's nipples.

With the pads of these fingers on that spot, compress the chest 1/2 inch to 1 inch. Push straight down. Compressions should be smooth, not jerky.

Give her 30 chest compressions at the rate of 100 per minute. When you complete 30 compressions, give two rescue breaths (step 3, above).

Step 5: Repeat compressions and breaths.

Repeat the cycle of 30 compressions and two breaths. If you're alone with your baby, call 911 or the local emergency number after two minutes of care. Continue the cycle of compressions and breaths until help arrives.

Even if your baby seems fine by the time help arrives, you'll want to have her checked by a doctor to make sure that her airway is completely clear and that she hasn't sustained any internal injuries.

[Article] How to reduce your baby's risk of choking

Article taken from babycentre

Stay with your baby whenever she's eating or drinking, make sure she's upright when you're feeding her solid food, and don't insist that she eat if she cries or resists. Mash or grind food so that it's soft enough for her to gum or chew. Because young children are likely to swallow without chewing, don't give her peanut butter, popcorn, raw carrots, raisins, nuts, whole grapes (cut them up, instead), hard candies, uncooked peas, or hot dogs (even in small pieces) until she's at least 4. (For more guidelines on safe finger foods, click here.) Children under a year shouldn't play with toys that have parts smaller than 1¼ inches around or 2¼ inches long. Also, keep her away from buttons, coins, safety pins, balloons, and rocks. Make sure that mobiles can't be pulled into your baby's mouth, and don't allow her to play with a baby powder container — the contents can shake free and clog the throat.

Accidents happen....

While it was a very fulfilling weekend last week, it was also a very horrifying week for me as a mummy!

My first encounter was on Friday. I was alone with Sarah... enjoying bites of apples with her, when suddenly she bit quite a big piece and found herself choking! She was coughing and coughing and her face turned red! When she started coughing, I guess it came out on its own in the nick of time! I was praying so hard, and at the same time checking to see if her airway is blocked in any way. I thank God that nothing serious happened. She managed to cough it out! The piece of apple was on the floor! Praise the Lord! It was such a horrifying scene and I vow to myself then never to allow her to bite on her own at this crucial growing stage, especially now when she has already 2 sharp bottom teeth. Honestly, I was a very panic then. I didn't know what else to do except to pray and hit her back to aid her in coughing the apple out. If anything bad had happened, I wouldn't know what to do... here's telling all parents to be armed with knowledge of first aid. It is VERY VERY VERY important to be non-panicky and be knowledgeable in infant first aid - at least some basics would be of great need!

Second encounter was on Saturday. She was basically playing on her own and being playful - out and about - she fell when she was trying to pull herself up to stand at the dining chair. She hit her face so hard onto the back of the chair that it cut her lower left-side lip. :( It bled a little. I carried her up and comforted her. She was alright after that... back to her playful self! Just that, we were extra cautious of her safety because she was such an active kid.

Thank God for protecting little Sarah. However, I must say that we must never take for granted safety measures for our children, and as parents, we must at all times be prepared for the worst and gain much knowledge to reduce further risks of accidents.

Lord, protect all our children from harm and danger. Keep them safe from accidents - be it at home or outside. Surround them with your angels... many many many of them, in Jesus name I pray - Amen!

The Benefits of Spirulina Powder

Why has spirulina been called a superfood?

Because it contains the most remarkable concentration of nutrients known in any food, plant, grain or herb. It's the highest protein food- over 60% all digestible vegetable protein. It has the highest concentration of beta carotene, vitamin B-12, iron and trace minerals and the rare essential fatty acid GLA. These make spirulina a great whole food alternative to isolated vitamin and minerals.

Does all spirulina have the same quality, purity and potency?

Spirulina is grown in from many countries. Customers should check the label - does it say exactly where it's grown? Is the cultivation controlled for a pure culture? With the growing concern about contaminated algae harvested from lakes, the source is important. Many people now prefer certified organic foods, and the good news is Earthrise Farms grows certified organic spirulina. Second, there's a wide variety in potency. Maintaining the highest levels of the carotenoids, phycocyanin and polysaccharides is very important. Now Earthrise Farms has developed the next generation of super spirulina.

The scientific research with spirulina identifies some unusual health giving phytonutrients. What are they?

Spirulina's dark color comes from a rainbow of natural pigments. They harvest sunlight at different wavelengths and protect from too much sun. These pigments offer unusual health benefits and help synthesize many enzymes necessary for regulating body metabolism. They are chlorophyll (green), carotenoids (yellow and orange) and phycocyanin (blue), the dominant color.

Not all spirulina is grown, processed and packaged the same way. Levels of these sensitive pigments vary widely. Spirulina needs high levels of all three to provide optimum health benefits. At Earthrise Nutritionals' farm, all three are tested on every day's production to assure potency.

I know Beta Carotene is an anti-cancer antioxidant nutrient. Is natural different than synthetic beta carotene?

Spirulina is the richest Beta Carotene food, with a full spectrum of ten mixed carotenoids. About half are orange carotenes: alpha, beta and gamma and half are yellow xanthophylls. They work synergistically at different sites in our body to enhance antioxidant protection.

What is so unique about spirulina as a source of GLA?

A food source of GLA is important, especially for women. Known GLA foods are mothers milk and oil extracts of evening primrose, black currant and borage seeds. Spirulina is a potent source, an astonishing 1% by weight! Eight spirulina tablets contain equivalent GLA to a capsule of primrose oil. I've heard from many women who have appreciated spirulina's benefits for PMS and for healthy, beautiful skin.

How much should people take and when should they take it?

Long time consumers and scientific evidence both suggest 2-5 grams a day bring significant health benefits. This is a teaspoon of powder or 6 to 20 tablets. Take it every day for best results. Because spirulina is a whole food, you can take it alone or with meals. Take convenient tablets anytime. Or, mix spirulina powder in a fruit juice smoothie as an instant breakfast, or in a vegetable juice smoothie in the afternoon.

Is spirulina recommended for pregnant mothers, infants and children?

Yes, its a perfect supplement. Iron deficiency anemia in mothers and children is the most prevalent nutritional disorder. Pregnant women can use spirulina's vegetable protein and bioavailable iron. In India and Vietnam, doctors prescribe spirulina for pregnant and nursing mothers and their infants. Parents are often surprised how much their children enjoy this green food. Kids like to suck on tablets and munch spirulina covered popcorn.

What are the benefits for an aging population?

Spirulina is an ideal anti-aging food: concentrated nutrient value, easily digested and loaded with antioxidants. Beta Carotene is good for healthy eyes and vision. This all vegetable, low fat protein means we can lighten up on a meat centered diet that can aggravate arthritis and raise cholesterol. When we choose to eat less meat, vegetables like spirulina are good sources of more iron and essential minerals.

As people age, many who don't eat enough, have restricted diets or poor digestion may experience low energy from being undernourished. Spirulina builds healthy lactobacillus, aiding assimilation and elimination and relieving constipation. Older people really notice an energy boost. In Japan, 73% of those taking spirulina are over 50 years old!

Is spirulina good for pets and other animals?

Yes. Walk into any pet store and you'll find it's a popular supplement for fish, birds and pets. In fact, much of the global spirulina production is consumed by aquaculture raised fish and prawns, tropical fish, ornamental birds, horses and even cats and dogs. In the 1970s, the first use was enhancing the beautiful colors in fancy koi carp. Then fish and prawn farmers discovered it increased growth rates, survival, color, and reduced medications. Today, spirulina is in most premium aquarium feeds.

Zoos feed their flamingos a spirulina diet, like the millions of pink flamingos living on it in East African lakes. Ornamental bird breeders use it to enhance color, health and fertility. Tiny amounts in diets of young turkeys and chickens builds disease resistance, reducing the need for antibiotics. In reptiles, it improves skin gloss and disease resistance. For thoroughbred racehorses, it improves speed and recovery.

If you give spirulina to your dog or cat, you'll notice healthier skin, lustrous coat and fresher breath. Older animals may regain their flexibility. It's not unusual for a pet owner to ask: "Is spirulina good for me, too?"

Spirulina for little Sarah!

Little Sarah just started on a healthier diet! (Hahaha! That should be ME!)

Last Saturday I started adding spirulina powder into her porridge. Her taste buds are still non-contaminated... thus, accepting this green food easily! :)

1/4 teaspoon of spirulina is added into the porridge... so it was carrot & spirulina porridge for her last weekend! Will try to add that into her milk soon too! :)

Deepavali weekend with mummy & J...

It was great to spend time with mummy & J once again after some months. Baby Sarah has grown up! The last that mummy & J saw her was in Melaka during the Mooncake festival week! That was one and half months ago! Time flies indeed.

Little Sarah looked stunned when she woke up from her nap, cuz there stood por-por and ah ee before her very eyes... :) She kept looking... staring... wondering... it took her awhile before she got back to "earth". Por-por then carried her and brought her out and walk around the apartment together with ah ee while I stole a short nap, which really made wonders to my then tired self! It was amazing that she didn't look for me during the walk. Hehehe... I was afraid that she would cry, but no, she didn't. It was only when she reached home and saw me that "reminded her of her mummy!" and started showing gestures of "Mummy! Mummy! Carry me! Carry me!" (hmm... and she sounded like she was panting like a dog!) :p

Here are some photos of us....

At night, we went out for dinner with my in-laws... the whole gang. So sorry, no photos taken... :( We just wahlup the food! It was a yummy dinner in Sg Chua, Kajang.

And then it was Deepavali the following day! The ladies went out while the man of the house stayed at home. To Sarah's favourite hang-out we went.... Jusco Equine Park! :)

Lunch was at Restaurant 3JC. I had rice with (supposedly) spicy minced pork... not spicy AT ALL, mum had cheese baked noodle and J got a bowl of noodle soup... hmmm.... comments on the food? It was just so-so... like as-long-as-there's-food-on-the-table kinda food. I tried before their curry noodle, i think it was alright... next time, we will go to Wong Kok Char Chan Teng (which is just a few doors away... contemplating at first which to go and finally decided on the earlier), which serves better food of the same sort and more variety of juices! :)
Anyway, thanks J for the treat and mummy also - for the gift! It was a fun time together!

And finally Sarah needed her afternoon nap.... J suffered aches on her upper right arm after that! (I just got an sms from her last night about that! hehehe...)

Cell makan outing... at "Look Out Point"

Let's see........ most outings has to do with food, food, food & more food! Right?! Well, I couldn't agree more! It's been yet again another fattening weekend. Unfortunately, there weren't many photos, or even if there were, they are not so good... Hubby left his precious camera back in Kajang. I had to use mine... photos didnt turn out well... so.... very unfortunately, I couldn't let the photos do the talking. Hmmm....

Anyway, just for the fun of it... here are some acceptable photos that I have... :p
Last Friday.... the cell went to "Look Out Point Western Food Restaurant" in Hulu Langat. Beautiful view of KL city... as you can see... Check out the lights! I love the city of lights!! Beauuuuutiful! :)

the entrance.... the view... and... some grilling process...

Uncle Philip carrying little Sarah, who's dressed in her giraffe suit,.. and there she goes, checking out the waiter in cap! :)

Non-flashed photos... the original colored photos... the blurred ones... *sigh...*
Heh heh... check out Isaac! He didn't move at all! He was actually posing for me to take the picture! Cool boy! :)
But unfortunately, my hands shook! *sighhh....*

Anyway, had a great time. It was a short makan outing, but it was worth the try, especially so when the view was sooooooo beautiful from up there! Too many people though (well, it was a weekend), so we didn't get to choose a good spot to sit. Also, thanks to Uncle for the treat, and for bb sitting! :)

This afternoon...

Little Sarah woke up at 12+noon... over 3 hours of sleep! Really really good for mummy here... She woke up when I've finished doing all that is to do in the house including getting her lunch prepared. Yes, today's menu is none other than... carrot porridge! Hehehe... Well, she had some other stuff during the week so... it's carrot porridge this time... from me again (that's the only thing in my fridge!)... but much better taste than the last time i did... cuz i added in fried anchovies! MIL's style! Heh heh... this time, i put less carrot and i blended the porridge... thus, she ate super fast! I was happily feeding her and giving her moral support as well! Hahaha! I really enjoyed feeding her... i wish i could record a video of it... well, maybe tomorrow... with hubby's help! :)

She's now playing on her own... better than I expected of her when we came back this round. I thought she would be feeling a lil lost or lonely (since in MIL's place, there's more people around her). Hmm... more running for me though, cuz she's getting really fast on her own! She's been naughty too... playing with DVD folders, paper bags, and everything that is within her reach! Thank God that we're enjoying each other's company at this time...

God bless! Thank U, Lord! :)

This morning...

It's gonna be 12 noon soon... and little Sarah is still in dreamland. :)

Good for mummy because mummy can work on some housechores (much needed since we've not come home for about 3 weeks in a row!). She slept since 9am. She didn't have a good rest last night, thus the long hours of sleep this morning. She didnt make much noise or cry at night... she was just restless. She seemed happy... she was smiling almost at all times... playing on her own... but she wasn't sleeping at the time when she normally does. Mummy and daddy here were pretty exhausted... we kinda took turns "checking her out"... but honestly, I cant really remember what happen last night. I was probably half awake during my shift! :p

This morning at 8am, Sarah looked at me from the bb cot.... trying to get my attention while I was still sleeping on the bed beside the cot. She didnt cry... but she was just making some noise and I guess... she was wondering... "how am I gonna get to mummy?!" "she's beyond my reach! boo-hoo-hoo". Well, I guess she also needed some adjustment when comes to sleeping... here, there's a cot for her, but not in Kajang, where she has direct access to mummy and daddy whenever she's awake!

All in all... today's been good. She's a good little girl! :)

[blog from hp] The usual... Traffic jam!

In the car with hubby... at Federal Highway.... Just thought of testing to blog fr the car. Hehe :)
So here goes... my first blog from my hp! Kekeke...

My Saturday....

I've not used the public transport for some time now ever since owning a car. Or even if i did, it was always with hubby - just to "go back to the good-ol-days" once in a blue moon.

Last Saturday, it wasn't just for fun but a need as I was needed to be in PJ for some duties. Hubby had to work on his own project from morning till night so.... there goes my "driver" :p

He sent me to work in the morning but i need to arrange for my own transport to go back. My plan was to take the bus or get a lift to the nearest LRT station... stop at KL sentral.... change train (Komuter) to go back Kajang... take a cab from there back home. I've done that except taking the cab cause I had hubby waiting for me at the station the other time! So... taking the public transport is not something new to me so I thought... no problem!

One thing has changed though... TIME! Fares has gone up... people around me look more "criminal-like"... truly a hassle indeed!

It was at 2.30pm when it's time to pack and go. Stomach was still empty then! Olivia decided to accompany me to wherever since she's not rushing for time. Thanks to her... I had a company for lunch and a bus-mate! :) We stopped at Mid Valley station. Had a late lunch at Burger King and off I went to catch a train back to Kajang. (Olivia continued "lepak-ing" :p)

My experience in the train... it was like sardines!!! I was standing near someone who had his sweat armpit hanging in front of me! Oh boy!!! There wasn't much choice for me too as I was surrounded by soooooo many sweaty human! I made sure my hp was safely kept deep in my pocket and that my laptop bag was carried in front of me instead of the back. I was looking around... some men looked pretty "scary"... Horrible stories i read in email came flashing in my mind. I quickly said a short prayer that I'll reach home safely in one piece. I reached Kajang station and many cab drivers approached me to give me a ride. No, they don't use meter at all... None of them do! Finally i decided to take one of the cab back and I reached home safely in one piece at 5.30pm. *phew* Thank God that everything went on well, despite the hassles and some of my own imaginations.

Well... Did i enjoy my ride? Not at all!

And let's see how much I've spent to get back home...
Bus from PJ to MidValley RM2.00
Train from MidValley to Kajang RM2.60
Cab from Kajang train station to house RM10.00 (crazy right?!)
That's RM14.60 in total!

On a more thankful note, here's thanking my MIL and FIL for taking care of little Sarah on a Saturday when they were meaning to do marketing and other house chores. I know it's a sacrifice they made to make available of their time so that I could perform my duty elsewhere. Will try to avoid this in future...
Thank u, Olivia also for accompanying me half my journey back!
Thank u, dear for sending me to the office in the morning so that I don't need to go through the hassle of taking public transport in the morning.

From my experience here, one thing I learn... to thank God for the blessings He's given me - things that I've taken granted for - like owning a car, like having a husband who drives me to work and back... that brings convenience to me.

Sometimes when we don't go through the hassles and troubles, we forgot to thank God for blessing us with the good things in life! Here's to GOD! Thank Him for ALL the good things in life He has given me! :)

Never Quit!

Many times in my life (even recently), I've been meaning to quit... well, don't ask what or why... and yes, i went through what some people says the "Ecclesiastes feeling"... it's that feeling about life is meaningless, everything I do seems pointless and God seems far away then. Sometimes it feels as if it happens like a cycle in my life. Hubby says it's a year end thing... :p He got that thought because he said it's the time of the year when I normally would recall what I've done this year, what have I achieved, etc... and then thinking again of the coming year's resolution. Hmmm... is it really because of that? It got me thinking....

Well, perhaps it's not just about having a total recall of what has happened this year, but what I believe is happening to me is a shift of the mind that needs to be taken place. It happens almost every now and then (in cycles) because deep within me is still searching for my destiny - Who m I? Why m I here? Things are just moving on as they normally do but what matters most is still "hanging" some where... out there... That alone frustrates me to the point of giving up. Being a new mummy and being in a totally different lifestyle is challenging... it's exciting... it's given me something to look forward to everyday... but somehow, something is still missing. I'm so totally in need of God! I know He's reading my blog and He knows exactly what I'm feeling! (Hehehe... God reads blog! cool! Hey God, what's Your blog address?! :D)

Well... two days ago while at work, it suddenly dawn upon me the reality in life and the response to what I should give towards it. There may be questions unanswered and life's uncertainties around me... (yeah... that Ecclesiastes feeling...), but I know I need to look at things in a different perspective.

Little Sarah taught her mummy a very good lesson! I've learned from just watching my little princess doing her day-to-day activity. She's one girl who never seem to understand the meaning of quitting! I like that about her! At the same time, it reminds me of how I should act and react in my personal life... in my personal agendas. I know it's not easy to do, especially when people becomes more and more complicated in their minds (like me! :p), but I've got to trust God to help me.

O yes Lord... this daughter of Yours is really in need of some guidance! I've been somewhat lost but I know Your amazing grace will save me. Come O Lord... come... and take Your place in my life. In Jesus' name I pray - Amen!

Chris Tomlin - Amazing Grace (My Chains are Gone)

Amazing grace, how sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me
I once was lost, but now I'm found
Was blind, but now I see

'Twas grace that taught my heart to fear
And grace my fears relieved
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed

My chains are gone

I've been set free
My God, my Savior has ransomed me
And like a flood His mercy rains
Unending love, Amazing grace

The Lord has promised good to me
His word my hope secures
He will my shield and portion be
As long as life endures

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow
The sun forbear to shine
But God, Who called me here below
Will be forever mine
Will be forever mine
You are forever mine

[+video] Sarah's adventure continues... (at Month 7)

Little Sarah... (promoting her status from "baby Sarah" to "little Sarah" since she just turned 7 m.o. hehehe...) continued her exploration on "higher grounds"... dangerous ground for little ones I would say.

Few days ago, we saw her climbing up the stairs. Not one step, not two steps, but four steps... before we brought her back down to safer grounds. Anything and everything seems possible for her. I can imagine her saying, "Nothing can stop me! Nothing can make me quit!" That's my girl!

Check out her latest adventure...

i. Warming up...

OUCH!

ii. At gear 1 (plus distractions along the way)... daddy had to beat her butt when she started doing the "hmm...-i-wonder-what-the-stairs-taste-like".

iii. Her confidence level shot up! OK... ready, get set, GO!

Little princess on the bed...

Hubby says Sarah sleeps like me! Hahaha! I don't know whether to laugh or to cry after hearing this! I could take up the whole space on the bed when I sleep... and here comes the little princess overtaking me! She will roll or crawl here and there and everywhere - looking for the most comfortable spot to sleep on.

Few nights ago, I had the pleasure (at about 1am) of watching her crawling towards me, searching for a comfy spot and she finally lean her head on my shoulder and stopped her search. So cute to see her do that! She slept through the night! :)

Last night, hubby saw her awoken suddenly (at about 3+am), lifted her head up, saw me and crawled towards me... and again, searching for a comfy spot. This time, being unaware, I moved and had my back faced her. She laid her head down behind me and immediately slept there and then through the night! We realized that perhaps our little princess was actually looking for a warm place to sleep on. Cute huh?! :)

A good rest back home...

It was 5.50 pm and I was already back home on the comfort of my bed in SK. So happy! At that time, I would normally still be in office, but yesterday I decided to go back a little earlier to get a good nap since my brain is not really functioning well anyway.

Guess what? I slept right thru for 3 hours!!! Hubby picked me up from home to go to Kajang slightly after 9. Why so late? Well, he had a last minute call for a meeting in office and due to the rain, he got caught in a bad bad jam on his way to SK. *phew!* Thank God I decided to go back home earlier that day! God is good! Thank u, Daniel, for giving me a lift back home.

Today, I am up - all charged up - looking forward for a better day today! God bless all of u for a great week ahead too! :)

I'm exhausted... (2)

I guess there's just one word to describe me right here, right now.... EXHAUSTED!!!

Being in a state of exhaustion....

  1. The point of complete depletion; used up.
    • We worked the mine to exhaustion, there's nothing left to extract.
  2. Supreme tiredness; having exhausted energy.
    • I ran in the marathon to exhaustion, then I collapsed and had to be carried away.
Taken from http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/exhaustion

Sigh... some people say "it's part of the joy of motherhood"..?? hmmm.... i would say it's part of motherhood... but joy? not in this case... i just need to draw strength from the Lord... even working is not so fun anymore when you're exhausted. *sigh...*

p/s - I recalled having the same title in my previous post and did a "search my blog"... :p
Yeah, I recalled it right... Read previous post here.
Looks like you're reading from an exhausted mummy blogger who was exhausted then and exhausted now too! *boo hoo hoo*!!

During the Raya break...

Hmm... What kept us busy during the Raya week? Nothing much really... yet, seemed like a pretty restless week. No, we weren't busy baking Raya cookies or go visitation :p *think think think*
Well, perhaps we were just occupied by Ms "Moh Sii Thin". Hehe... She can really occupy us at all times!

Wednesday 1/10/2008...
We didn't do much then except to rest at home... well, tried to... and later that night, DA-aunties came to put a night. They brought us some meat for supper from their BBQ in JOMJ's. Thx JoMJ for the supper! I was really hungry then! Well, all of us were pretty tired... No more energy to actually stay up and chat or do anything of that sort, so we rested "early" at about 1 am. I heard that DA-aunties slept right thru the night and almost immediately once reached the bed. Hor? Hor? :p

Thursday 2/10/2008...
Hubby made us all breakfast! Some nuggets, sausages, fish fillets, broccolis, potato bread + milo/coffee! Thx dear!

Went to the Mines in the afternoon... amanDA aunty's eyes were itchy! Apparently, she couldn't resist the sight of new clothes/bags/shoes/etc etc... :p But i think she was quite "discipline" during that time. Hehehe... Baby Sarah was behaving well... she loves being in shopping malls! brenDA aunty and hubby bought DVD games for themselves! *adui!*

Went home... tired... after walking around the whole of Mines, carrying an 8.5kg load with a baby carrier in front of me is no joke... for 2-3 hours! Me and hubby took turns... *phew* Well, if u guys are asking why didn't we use the stroller... it's because she just couldn't sit still. Perhaps we started too late on her for this, but it was almost impossible to leave her in it for even 5 seconds!

Evening came, DA-aunties went home. My family-in-laws came and off we went for the next round of outing... what else but to fill our empty stomachs! :p

It was at Fun Taipei Teacafe at Jalan Pudu. We were supposed to go for some halker food outside but it was raining... so, we ended up indoors instead.

I did a google search on "Fun Taipei", and check out what I got http://food.malaysiamostwanted.com/venues/fun-taipei-jalan-pudu
Well, I wouldnt say the food is superlicious, but one thing i want to highlight is... u have babysitters there so you can eat your food while your baby is being taken care of. :p

The food and the "baby sitters"...
The ladies carried and played with Reanne & Sarah so we could continue our dinner while our hands were free. But not long after that,....

...they longed for their own mummy/daddy/yeh-yeh/nai-nai... :)
As usual, couldn't take a still photo of baby Sarah and thus the "blur effect".
Here, yeh-yeh was looking through some chinese books displayed at their "reading corner".

And guess what?! Ivan met someone.... hehehehe....
That lil girl was such a cutie! :)

And so.... my Raya week ended there. Now, looking forward to Deepavali! :p

Eggs for Baby Food

Age for Introduction to Baby

8-10 Months - Egg Yolks Only
12 Months - Whole Eggs

The Goodness of Egg Yolks for your Baby

Of the mere 5 grams of fat in an egg yolk, only 1.5 grams (31%) are saturated fat. Monounsaturated fats total 1.9 grams (38%) and polyunsaturated0.68 grams (14%). The ratio of an egg’s fat content comes close to meeting the dietary proportions currently recommended as: -1/3 saturated, 1/3 monounsaturated and 1/3 polyunsaturated.

The egg yolk contains the following:

* all of an egg’s vitamin A, D, and E;
* almost all the vitamin B12, choline, folic acid and vitamin B3;
* 76% of the biotin,
* 73% of the inositol,
* 50% of the niacin,
* 93% of the vitamin B6,
* 42% of the riboflavin,
* 90% of the thiamin
* 44% of the protein
and substantial portions of the egg’s mineral content

When can I introduce Eggs to my baby?

Most pediatric resources agree that egg yolks are fine for baby to eat when baby is around 8 months old. Please keep in mind that the egg whites should not be fed to baby before 1 year old. Eggs, particularly the egg whites, are one of the top 8 of all allergens. Many studies that have been done on infants with egg allergies find that by the time the infant has reached age 5, the allergy has been outgrown! This is good news as the egg is highly nutritious and an important part of ones diet!

If your family has a history of egg allergies, then it is probably best to wait until after 12 months old to introduce egg yolks.

Baby Sarah's Weight & Height - Month 6

Last night baby Sarah went to get her third and final Rotavirus vaccination. After this visit, the next would be after her first birthday (WOW! Time flies!!) to get her Measles/mupms/rubella jab.

Month 6 (16 September)
Weight=8.66kg (+0.26kg)
Height=67.5cm (+1cm)
Head circumference=41.5cm (+1cm)

Month 6+ (7 October)
Weight=8.5kg (-0.16kg)
Height=70cm (+2.5cm)
Head circumference=41.5cm (+0cm)

Her weight started decreasing when she had diarrhoea attack mid last month, but then again, it wasn't a surprise that her weight continued to go down a little bit since she is such an active kid! She has a nickname now "moh sii thin"... it's the word for "non-stop" in hakka dialect... hahaha :D

Notice that almost all her pictures are slightly blur :p
We just cant take proper shots of her on the move. She's way tooooo fast! Hubby said need a better camera to take her pictures!

Lunch with a brother and a friend...

It has been some time since we met for lunch. Today we decided to meet and catch up with each other. He's a great drummer - both a drummer in DUMC and a drums instructor in college (recently been busy in Sedaya college).

A brother and a friend he is. I would say God has been good to him and real in his life. Today I felt such a zeal in him and how passionate he was when he shared about God and how important it is to put God first in his life... in my life. It reminded me of who God really is, and that He's waiting at the door of my heart... just waiting to come dine with me... again. His grace is so sufficient but yet, time and again, I'm always looking out for "something"... "somewhere"... to fill me... to satisfy me. It was only yesterday morning when I felt a longing (like what Elliott said - he must be so prophetic to call me last night and ask to meet up for lunch!) deep inside me but not knowing what it is. It's not just about having a great family with a great husband and a cute lil girl... it's not just about being involved in ministries in church... it's not just about being effective and efficient at work... it's not just about being financially sound... it's not just about doing the things I am passionate of... it's not just about trying to change my lifestyle and keeping fit... above all that I said that are important, what matters most is where's Jesus in all these? It's all about Him... it's all about deep keeps calling deep.

Elliott shared about a conference that took place in his church not long ago and how blessed he was and those who attended it. It was a "God At Work" seminar by Kent Humphreys. He ask me to download the notes from DUMC website and be blessed from reading the notes :) From Elliott's sharing, I know one thing that I must remember doing - to remember His grace and remember Matthew 6:33... How this verse had somewhat lost somewhere during these while when busy became my middle name.

Sometimes, when the good things in life are in our hands, we let go what's BEST! When the heart focuses on God, the best will come our way. Let not our hearts be contented by the things that are good... but let it be filled by what God's been storing for us - the BEST!

Here's praying that all of you reading will also come back to His word and know that He is near and what God has in store for you are better than just good. God bless!

[e-how] How to Stop Procrastinating

How to Stop Procrastinating

Introduction
There's an old joke that the members of Procrastinators Anonymous keep meaning to meet ... but keep putting it off.

Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately Easy

Steps
Step 1
Think about why you procrastinate: Are you afraid of failing at the task? Are you a perfectionist and only willing to begin working after every little element is in place? Are you easily distracted?

Step 2
Break up a large, difficult project into several smaller pieces. Tackle each piece separately.

Step 3
Set deadlines for completion. Try assigning yourself small-scale deadlines ' for example, commit to reading a certain number of pages in the next hour.

Step 4
Work in small blocks of time instead of in long stretches. Try studying in one- to two-hour spurts, allowing yourself a small break after each stint.

Step 5
Start with the easiest aspect of a large, complex project. For example, if you're writing an academic paper and find that the introduction is turning out to be hard to write, start writing the paper's body instead.

Step 6
Enlist others to help. Make a bet with your family, friends or co-workers that you will finish a particular project by a specified time, or find other ways to make yourself accountable.

Step 7
Eliminate distractions or move to a place where you can concentrate. Turn off the television, the phone ringer, the radio and anything else that might keep you from your task.

Tips & Warnings
  • Remember that progress, not perfection, is your goal.
  • Track your goals on a calendar or in a personal organizer. Keep your goals reasonable and check off each one when you are finished.

[e-how] How to Work Efficiently

How to Work Efficiently

by eHow Careers & Work Editor

Introduction
We'll keep this short so you can get back to work.

Instructions
Difficulty: Moderately challenging

Steps
Step 1
Keep your desk and your files organized to avoid wasting time shuffling through piles of paper.

Step 2
Go through your inbox at the beginning of each work day. Either throw away, file or follow up on each item.

Step 3
Prioritize a list of the tasks you need to accomplish that day.

Step 4
Delegate tasks to co-workers and assistants if possible.

Step 5
Finish one task before you go on to the next.

Step 6
Reduce paperwork by storing important information on your computer or electronic organizer.

Step 7
Communicate effectively and plan carefully to make sure a job is done properly the first time around.

Step 8
Schedule time when you'll be available, and let colleagues know, to avoid constant interruptions. Close the door if you need to.

Step 9
Take breaks. A short walk or quick lunch away from the office will increase your overall productivity.

Step 10
Before leaving for the day, tidy up your desk and make a short list of projects you will need to do the next day.

Step 11
Try not to take work home. You need the break.

Tips & Warnings
  • Recognize when you have the most energy in a day and do the important or harder tasks then.
  • Note that certain days (usually Monday or Friday) are more hectic than others, and schedule accordingly.
  • Have someone else answer your phone if possible. Give instructions about calls you wish to take and those that can be returned later.
  • Avoid regularly going out for long business lunches - big meals make for unproductive afternoons.
  • Avoid procrastination.

[Knowledge: Baby] Playtime for Babies - Month 6

At week 21:
Let your baby practice rolling back and forth across paper or magazines - the crinkly noise will encourage him to roll more. (Don't use newsprint, as it could contain chemicals harmful to your baby.)

At week 22:
If your baby hasn't been spending time with other babies, now is a great time to form a playgroup with other parents and babies around the same age as yours. It doesn't need to be formal, but you should establish a regular meeting schedule - once a week or twice a month, for example.

Many playgroups meet in a nearby park during nice weather, then switch off hosting duties when the inclement weather hits. The time spent with other babies will allow your child the opportunity to work on her people skills. And your time with other parents can provide you with a sounding board for any, um, concerns you might have. Let the venting begin!

At week 23:
Take a splash with your baby this week. It's fun for both of you - and it's good exercise! The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that you not begin formal swimming lessons until kids are at least four years old (that's the age children are thought to be "developmentally ready" for swim lessons), but that doesn't mean that babies can't be taught to enjoy being in the water.

At week 24:
Your baby is ready for a game of hide and seek. Hide a few of your baby's favorite toys inside an overturned basket or plastic bowl. At this stage, he can remember that the objects are present, even though he can't see them - provided you show him a few times where they are. Once he catches on, you might leave the objects hidden overnight to see if he discovers them the next day.

[Knowledge: Baby] Playtime for Babies - Month 5

At week 17:
Silly songs? They're part of childhood. So you might as well start getting used to them now. Sit your baby on your lap and sing:

"This is the way the lady rides, trit-trot, trit-trot, trit-trot." (Bounce baby very lightly.)
"This is the way the gentleman rides, a-gallop, a-gallop, a-gallop." (Move alternate legs.)
"This is the way the farmer rides, hobbledy-hoy, hobbledy-hoy, hobbledy-hoy." (Bounce unevenly.)
"And down into a ditch!" (Very gently, bounce baby down on your lap.)

At week 19:
As you know by now, babies love to play with their feet - and who can resist those cute little toes? Playing "This Little Piggy" will be great amusement for both you and your baby. Just in case you've forgotten, here's one version. Start with the big toe and wiggle each in succession as you say the following lines:

This little piggy went to market.
This little piggy went home.
This little piggy ate roast beef.
This little piggy had none.
And this little piggy cried wee-wee-wee all the way home!

At week 20:
Play a game of "Row, Row, Row Your Boat."
Sit on the floor with your legs together and straight out in front of you. Lay your baby on your legs with her head at your feet, and her feet close to your knees. Hold her hands and pull her toward you as you lean back. As you lean forward, lower her again to your legs. While you are rocking, sing:

"Row, row, row your boat, gently down the stream,
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily, life is but a dream."

First tooth!

It's an exciting moment of her life! Baby Sarah cuts her first tooth after some months of teething and salivating all over. Yeah, she's been putting things in her mouth eversince 3 months old and now... the fruit of her labour! Hahaha!

I couldnt actually notice it at first. I didnt really manage to feel it too but i thought i saw 2 "lines" on her lower gums and thought... are those her first 2 front teeth? Later on, as I felt one of them, it did feels a lil sharp and what confirms it was when i washed her feeding spoon and felt teeth marks at the bottom of the spoon.

God bless baby Sarah for healthy teeth! Amen! :)
