Blessed Christmas 2009!

This year, the mood was a lil more relaxing for me... maybe because I wasn't rushing for any projects in my work like I used to, except of course my course assignments. Hehe... The other thing is, hubby and I used to do a lot of things together, esp when we have only one car to go around with. We used to do our Christmas shopping together after work, but this time round, we spread our shopping time from weekends (when we DO do our shopping together in malls) and anything not gotten, I had the liberty to do Christmas shopping on my own during lunch time or after work. On Christmas eve, I even went to a nearby salon to get my hair cut after work as well. I guess in a way, I have become pretty much independent compared to previous years. :)
I really must say THANK YOU to my in laws for all the support given to me when I had to do a lot of things on my own without Sarah near me, and of course, they've been there to take care of the little one for me while I needed some time on my own. I really can't express how grateful I am.
As for Christmas.... well, let these pictures do the talking about what took place this season of the year.
At home....
Sarah and cousins, kor-kor Ivan & cheh-cheh Reanne posing in front of Christmas tree. Christmas tree was decorated by my brother-in-law, CK... with the "help" of the 3 kids! :)

Ivan, Reanne & Sarah posing in front of the camera with their red santa hat!

At work....
We had Christmas party after the Principal's meeting at the head office. First, we sang some Christmas carols and then, played some games, gifts exchange, and finally the makan makan time.
You won't believe what I got during the gift exchange.... *doh!*
From an education company some more! *double doh!*
I honestly don't know what to do with these books.... maybe give away as presents for next year! LOL! :D

At church....

This was Christmas caroling night on the 3rd Saturday of the "caroling season" for our church.

(More pix to be posted later... as they are still in hubby's camera... not transferred yet! :p)
Christmas service was at J1 on Christmas eve. It was such a joyous occasion indeed. Everyone during this time of the year was like "Santa Claus" - giving away presents here and there and everywhere.... hehehehe...

The youth presented a cool, cute and interesting performance with our very own Mr Mark (bottom right of below pix) being the host for the night. It was called "Christmas Superstar"! It was like a talent show - you know... American Idol kinda stuff... and every contestant will perform their best to win the hearts of the judges, who are the congregation ourselves! :)

Now you may asked... "Perform what?" Well, in Christmas Superstar, our contestants were supposed to give what they believe is best to be given to Christ for His birthday gift!

And so... our very first contestant... Mr Talented with the white hood. Mr Talented and his dance crew performed their dance in the hope to give Christ his talents for Christmas.

Secondly, we have Mr Trillionaire! As you can imagine from his humongous belly, he definitely fed himself with lots of goodies!... err... goodies? :p So, will Christ be happy with us giving Him only our wealth?

Thirdly, we have Ms Popular presenting her popular dance... hmm... giving her popularity to Christ for Christmas! How's that?! ;o)

And... finally, we have Mr Sincere giving his heart to Christ as a gift... oh yes, he sincerely gave his heart to Christ... and sang a beautiful song to show his sincerity. Check out who's behind the keyboard! LOL!

So...... now, you be the judge!

Who's the winner of Christmas Superstar? Huh? Huh? :)

And after a long night out till midnight, Sarah KO-ed on the way back till we reached home... :)

With friends....

We had the privilege of meeting up with Danielle, Jin and lil Max for Christmas Day lunch at McD. Of course, the reason we were at McD was so that our 2 little ones can play in the little playground together.

Oops, sorry... no pix of the two daddies! :p

There were of course plenty of gifts and plenty of food that comes along in this celebration, but too bad, not a single photo taken. Haha... anyway guys & gals,
We celebrated Christmas for a reason....

"Jesus is the reason for this Season!"

and so... don't ever "X" away "Christ" when you write your Christmas wishes!

Here's wishing you...
"A very Blessed Christmas to U!"

"God bless U!"

[+video] Threading activity

I had the privilege to bring home the thread and beads from school to do my observation with my lil nephew. All the kids at home seemed to enjoy doing threading. It's something new for them and I'm thrilled to watch them do the threading, and for Sarah... at such a young age! It was meant for children aged 3 above to get their fine motor skills "sharpened", but I see Sarah enjoyed this activity a lot, and she's developing pretty well too. Once, when I came home from school, she asked me for the ball-ball (the beads), which I had to apologize to her for not bringing back that night... :)

Do enjoy this video of Sarah doing the threading. If you have toddlers at home, I do encourage you parents to get a hold of threading activity like this. There's a lot of different types of threading activities that you can find in shops that sells educational toys. Go! Try it! It's really fun! And.... don't forget your video camera! :)

[+video] Fun with balloons....

After this incident, she wanted to sit and burst another balloon. Seemed to her that this is a really fun game. Am really speechless. So anyone who wants to burst balloons with fun and laughter, don't forget to call Sarah along! :p

Daddy, Sarah & Alvin!

Mines Shopping Complex in Seri Kembangan has totally taken a leap in their business (I believe!) as they draw many people in ever since they change management. Well, no doubt after the facelift (almost like a total make-over!), Mines look so much more "high-class" now and thus attracting more and more people almost everyday. At present, you can see Alvin & Chipmunks Christmas deco at their center stage. It's lovely! FYI, coming up soon to theaters... Alvin & the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel.
Here's daddy & Sarah with the big Christmas tree & Alvin on the tree! :)

Jusco Christmas Tree Bear

This is sooooo cute! I like this tree a lot! It's soooo cute that even Sarah was so happy looking at it and wanted to grab a bear. I wanted to take a pix of Sarah with it but unfortunately she was moving quite a bit...

[+video] Sleep Standing....

She was soooooooooo exhausted after service one Sunday.... check this out!

Hehehe... You guys might think of us as cruel parents... hahaha! But we really cant help laughing away while taking these videos! :D Here's another one...

This is basically her final standing position while sleeping before we head out for lunch that day. Her body was already slanting from her original standing position after a few minutes of dozing. :)

T.G.T.H!

Exhausted!!! Sleepy!!!
You know why? I've been up since 3+ am this morning to complete my assignment which is due to be submitted this Saturday. Yeah, yeah... talk about being last minute expert here. :p
Two nights ago, or rather yesterday in the wee hours in the morning only that I was able to lay my head to rest at 4am... woke up then at 5.30 to get ready to carpool with my colleagues for training in Shah Alam. Of course we didn't want to get caught in the jam so we left our area by 6.30am. I was basically there for teachers' training for three days in a row. I reached home on 1st day at 8.45pm (terrible jam due to rain!), 2nd day at 7.40pm and last night at 8.10pm. No, I did not miss a single bit of the traffic jam along federal highway. Gone were the days when I had to travel every day in the jam... really a waste of time. Nothing seemed to improve. Sigh...
OK OK... so back to this... I'm so very exhausted and sleepy right now... but I have to get ready soon to go to work... Thank God I'm at least 80% done in my assignment and tomorrow is a holiday for Selangor 'cuz it's Sultan of Selangor's birthday! Yippie!!! I'll probably able to catch some sleep that I lost later tonight or tomorrow! And for that, I'm giving you a BIG BIG SMILE! :D
T.G.T.H! Thank God Tomorrow's a Holiday! :D

Today....

It's been a really tiring Saturday for me... but check out what I'm doing... blogging! LOL! :D
Have not been reading my blogger pals blogs too, so... had to spend some time reading about other people's life... hehehe.... so KPC (keh-poh-chi) huh?!! :p
Anyway, just to sum up a little about today. As usual, I went for my Saturday classes... but this time, I'm totally KO both physically & mentally. Recently I get dizzy quite frequently as well as bags under my eyes are forming. I might be experiencing vertigo.... I guess I'm really in need of some good physical rest. Today I am mentally tired as well as I think I used a little bit more brains this time during class... Hahaha! The situation is this... my assignments deadlines are nearing and I'm a little stress about it. To be honest, I've not really put much thoughts into any of the assignments given. However, today at class, ideas kept coming as the lectures were going on. I had to keep jotting down notes after notes of ideas and proposals for my assignments. After this, I need to perform some experiments & observations for my nephew (THE SUBJECT for my case study :)) and put them all into the right format later on. I've also to complete my "book" in these 2 weeks. Gotta buy all the materials and get them done soon!
I've one assignment to submit next week and then another few the following week so, i'm gonna be busier than a busy bee these few weeks! :-s Oh, but I must say THANK GOD, one of the assignment's deadline is postponed to the 1st wk of January! Hoo-ray!!! :D
And so.... after class today, hubby and I went to J1 for caroling... not knowing that I became the guitarist for the night! Apparently, our official guitarist has gone to Greece to attend a last minute call for work /:) Well, I've not played the guitar for a long time (for a whole stretch of one hour, that is!), but I did it anyway. Thank God! My fingers were a little sore right now, but nevertheless, I enjoyed the night. We've never sung at public places before, so this is truly a great experience. Most importantly is to be a blessing wherever we go! Amen? :)
OK-la.... so there you go - a summary of what took place today. So, I'm now going to respond to... *yawn*.... the call of my cozy bed! Nite nite, everyone!

[Article] Rewarding Good Behaviour

Article by Dr. Albert Liau

Good behaviour can be generally defined as acting in a way that is socially, culturally or, in the case of children, developmentally appropriate. As a responsible parent, it is your duty to teach your child what is acceptable behaviour at an early age.
When your child exhibits bad behaviour, you should first investigate if there is a reason for it, such as being bullied in school. Perhaps your child is sad or anxious due to a troubling issue like the death of a pet, or a tense family relationship at home. If you discover that mere disobedience was the cause, then an appropriate punishment may be appropriate.
While punishing bad behaviour does work, rewards can be a powerful tool for reinforcing good behaviour. Young children learn by association, and just as they learn to avoid bad behaviour due to its association to punishment, associating good behaviour to a desirable reward can be a great motivator.
There are a few types of rewards available to parents – praise, activity rewards and material rewards. As a rule, praise and activity rewards should be used more often than material rewards to avoid spoiling children. Parents should also refrain from using money or sweets as a reward.
More than a simple reward/punishment system, I strongly advise parents to strike a balance between rewarding behaviour and teaching children to develop a sense of self-satisfaction for a job well done, or for good behaviour. Children should not be reliant only on external motivators, like the promise of a reward, to behave well.
Here are some expert tips on rewarding good behaviour:
  • Show the desired behaviour and be a role model. Rewards are going to be ineffective if parents are not modelling the desired behaviour.
  • Praise and encouragement is often the best reward for young kids. There are many ways to do this aside from saying it verbally. A kiss or a hug, a smile, a thumbs-up, a high-five, or even a wink all communicate your approval and can make your child feel good. You can make even an older child can feel good by including an encouraging note in his lunch box.
  • You can devise a simple reward system in the form of marking stars on a wall calendar every time your child does something good. When he has accumulated enough stars for the week, you can give him an activity reward such as a visit to the playground or extra time in the bathtub.
  • Choose a specific behaviour you want to change. When teaching your child good behaviour, be as specific as possible to help him understand what you expect from him.
  • When applying a reward/punishment system, be firm and keep your word. Being soft in the way you enforce the rules may encourage him to test your resolve.
  • Be consistent to avoid confusion. Communicate to all family members and caregivers your action plan so that they will also demonstrate the same actions when rewarding a particular behaviour.
  • Bad behaviour is sometimes a call for your attention, which is a reward in itself.

On Time Management...

Been trying to juggle my time with a whole list of responsibilities and roles that I currently hold... well, what can I say except that I am really in need of a very important skill right now... TIME MANAGEMENT SKILL! :p

Theoretically speaking, it is not difficult to handle many things at a go, being a multitasker I'd say. But this time, it's not just about being a multitasker, but about being the person I need to be (as a wife, mummy, daughter, employee, student, etc) and strive to carry out my responsibilities with the best of my ability.... OK OK... enough said! Practically speaking, it is really not easy. Sometimes I could just stare blankly at the white wall and think of nothing but rest. I just needed that.

I've so much to do and learn in my new workplace (not a complaint but a fact) and I currently enjoy going for my classes in uni. There are also so many assignments given... assignments that I've no complaints, cuz I'm really enjoying each one of it. The only BIG BUT about all these is.... I'm just afraid I couldnt complete it due to time. At times I had to stay back in the office just to do some of my assignments as being at home, my role is totally switched to MUMMY!

One thing I know I cannot compromise is my role as a mummy (and wife). Therefore, the times that I have left everyday after work is so essential to be given to my family. Every evening when I come home, I will make sure I'll spend quality time with little Sarah. Sometimes I do need to stay back at work for a little while more before heading for home, but after that, it's Sarah's time. I did for a couple of times brought work home. First attempt to do it with Sarah being present with me, but failed to distract her with other paper and pencil. She just wanted her hands on mine! But anyway, I only had one choice then... wait for her to sleep (apparently I slept too!). So i woke up earlier in the morning to complete my work.

So, other than work, it's the studies that I have to juggle with. Books to read and study and research to be done.

At present, these are my assignments (in brief):

1. Create a book for a child (for ages between 0-8yo)
2. Propose an ideal kindergarten - design the environment of my childhood centre.
3. Plan activities which encourage children using their senses.
4. 16 practical observations to be done with my little nephew (I've not started any yet!)
5. A lot other art assignments that are done on weekly basis (will post some pix of them later! :))

OK-la... so there you are... the summary of my life right now. Seriously need time management skill to handle each and every "assignments" given to me (in school, at work & at home)
Pray for me ok? Thank u! Sieh sieh! Terima kasih! Nandri!

Good friends....

One born on 15th Feb, another born on 15th March. They grow up so well together that now they become best of friends... we all believed so!

They would influence each other into liking the same things and speaking the same words. Of course, being egocentric at this age, there'll be snatching of toys from each other and jealousy towards each other's own little world. The good part about it is they are learning things quickly this way and are both developing very very well in many aspects.

Well, not forgetting, big brother Ivan too, will not miss out on doing things together and playing together. Being the big brother, his "responsibility" is pretty BIG - to take care of the little sisters and be a good role model for the other two to follow. Hehehe... Of course we cant expect a perfect role model from this little boy, but he's growing well too.

We pray that all of them will influence each other to do good things - like the very famous quote says: See No Evil; Hear No Evil; Speak No Evil! We, parents, have BIGGER responsibility to ensure that our little ones grow in a positive environment in all aspects of their growth.

Sarah... the little poser! :)

Taken few minutes ago... yes, she purposedly posed these as mummy asked her to. She's such a darling! :)

Just making some noise after some silence....

Wah! Seems like a long time since i pen anything down here.... Been pretty busy actually. Both at work & at home.

So here's me saying "HI" to all my friends & readers! I'm still ALIVE! Thank God! Kekekeke...

I've so so so so much to share about my job, my studies (assignments), and not forgetting my lil girl's day to day milestones, but time is just not on my side... sob! sob!

Will update you guys whenever I can. Currently, early morning blog writing is so difficult to maintain, simply because I'm too tired to wake up! :p

Oh yah... thank you all for the best wishes on my Birthday! FYI, I had to spend more than half of my special day listening to lectures in class. After that, got caught in a traffic jam on the way back... i guess, it was due to people celebrating "Halloween" in KL :p After that, my family & my in-laws celebrated my birthday together in KFC. Kekeke... Of course, the children loved it. CK, thank you for "bending" on that day. :D

OK-la... tata for now... back to work! :p

"Wah-cha-you..."

Hmm... both daddy and mummy have no idea what this phrase means...

"wah-cha-you..."

It's Sarah's almost-too-commonly-used phrase that we both cant figure what it means. She will say, "Don't want wah-cha-you..." or sometimes in mandarin, "Wor pu yao wah-cha-you..."

Hmm... when we later find out what it means, I will update you guys, OK?! :p

[+video] Pencil color turned into... ?

I bought this "pencil color" for RM1/pc from a stationery shop nearby. I got 3 pieces for the 3 angels at home. It's cute & cheap! Hehehe...

Well, when I saw this pencil color, I thought of course that this pencil color is a tool for coloring... a cute tool for coloring, but what do our kids actually think of it? *think think think*

This was what Sarah did to the pencil color at the beginning...

She decided that the pencil color looks better when they're all dismantled... thus she calls it "ball-ball"...

Since Sarah has decided what it should be, mummy respected her decision and made sure that all pencil leads were taken out. She likes the sound that the "ball-ball" make when they are being shaken in an empty container... and bottle too... as shown in the next video!

Actually, this "ball-ball" were imagined as "vegetables" when she plays "masak-masak". She likes to role-play as a chef and cook these balls in her cooking pan. Oh, but too bad that I haven't gotten the chance to record her cooking these balls.

So yes, that's the imagination of our little ones... Thinking out of the box, ya?! :)

[+video] Sarah writing... (at Month 18)

We noticed Sarah has been able to hold a pencil quite correctly the past few weeks. I'm so proud of her. Daddy & I showed her how to hold it and the next thing we knew, she started holding the pencil the corrrect way. Way to go, Sarah!

We started letting her get exposed to drawing when she was about 12-13 months. Read previous post here. We let her use a pencil at first, but later on got her to use some crayons. Practice makes perfect! Eventually, we gave her a pencil again and found her fine motor skills have improved tremendously.

Here's the video showing Sarah learning to write (draw). She seemed pretty enthusiastic about what she was writing/drawing...

Sarah, the little song leader...

"Yi Chieh Ge Song Zhan Mei...." - her lullaby song since baby! :)

"Jesus Loves Me This I Know..."

"Give Me Oil In My Lamp..."

"We Want To See Jesus Lifted High..."

"Twinkle Twinkle Little Star..."

"If You're Happy & You Know It..."

These are some of the songs that we sing to her since she was a little baby. Today, she is able to sing some of these songs on her own (her very own version!) too, like "Jesus Loves Me This I Know" & "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star".

Let me share with you 2 other cute incidences:
1. Happy Birthday song... Sarah would sing this song every time she sees a candle! She would only sing the 3rd line of course, which is "Happy Birthday to Sa-raaaaahhhhhh!" :)

2. Ask her "What song you want to sing?" She would say, "Na na na na na..." Hehehe... Yes, that's the bridge for the song "Waves of Mercy"! She just loves that part... :)

More updates on Sarah's development.. (at 18+ months)

Sarah's growing very well I would say and praise the Lord for that! However, we do pray that she will tone down being quick-tempered (by nature I believe). Recently, she started yelling as well, if she doesnt get what she wants. Really pray that she will come out of it soon.

Also, she's definitely an attention grabber. As I am typing this in my room, she is giving me all kinds of things so that I would participate with her in some "tasks", often which she is able to do on her own as she explores. This time, because she knows I am on the laptop, she tries getting my attention by all means. Shrewd, eh?!

Her vocabulary has totally increased by the days. She even makes sentences now which are meaningful. One particular (almost) complete sentence that I heard her spoke about a week ago was: "I want put here"

Her "I wants"... and "dont wants" are used with meaning too, for eg:
"I want/don't want water"
"I want/don't want go upstairs"
"I want more"... or "some more"

Just some updates...

Well... it's been more than 2 weeks since my last post. Yeah, what's new? Been busy of course. I'll try to make this post short & sweet! :)
OK... just some updates...
I just started my professional diploma course in Early Childhood Education in University Malaya 2 Saturdays ago. Back to school for 13 months! It was only after my first lesson for the semester and I already had to "ponteng" school last Saturday for my kindi's annual concert and graduation. So, yes... it was yet another busy Saturday last week. I was the "middle-man" between back stage & waiting room... so I was actually busy running about as well. Came back with sore feet but nevertheless, I enjoyed the experience being directly involve in the children's concert & graduation. There were about 300 students as we had 3 centres combined for this special day.

Some photos to spice up my post a lil... hehe...

The children... while waiting for their turn to perform.

Some of our teachers... "Hi-5!, teacher Azeela!" LOL!
Sekolah Seri Suria invited us for a "makan-makan" before the concert. It's the school's "open-house" for the raya celebration.

Our concert & graduation was held at Sekolah Seri Suria, Hulu Langat.
Thise above pix is the concert hall. It's called "Hall of Character".
Well, unfortunately, I didnt manage to take much pix as I was pretty busy that day... which also means no pix of the performances as well as I was mainly at backstage & the waiting area. Well, maybe next time then... :)

Sarah not feeling well...

OK... one last post for the day, and maybe for the week!

After our short trip back to Melaka, Sarah is now down with fever, flu and cough. Second time this month... :(
She's not been having good night sleep, and that means we parents dont have enough sleep as well. Her nose is blocked and it keeps running both day and night. Her fever fluctuates between 37-38 degree for the past few days (really longer than usual). She's been having fever since Wednesday so we really pray that it will break soon. Just last night, I saw that she was also having ulcer in her mouth. It's sad to see her unwell. Do pray for her for speedy recovery and total healing.

On the other hand, I had fever and very bad sore throat on Thursday evening as well but I thank God that my fever broke by Friday morning and I went to work as usual that day. I'm recovering fast too... really needed that so that I can take care of our little one.

Last night and today, we feed her milk with spoon as she rejects her milk bottle. Thank God she did not reject the spoon. She accepts medicine quite well with spoon too so praise God for that. Do continue to pray for her.

"Lord, I uphold our dear Sarah into Your loving hands. Heal her of fever, flu and cough. Take away any discomfort from her body. Grant her peaceful sleep both day and night. Let her also have appetite for food & milk. Keep her healthy and safe. In Jesus' name I pray - Amen!"

[+video] Sarah, the lil businesswoman... (at Month 17+)

Businessman (or woman) is always being associated with handphones. Here's Sarah portraying one busy businesswoman with her toy handphone! :)

The video was taken about a month ago... mummy here out-dated oredi ler... :p

[+video] Sarah.... 123 with daddy! (at Month 17+)

The video was taken on 22nd August. Yes... this post is about more than a month over due oredi (haha!)

Updates on Sarah... (at 18 months)

Sarah has been an active little girl, ever since she cried her first cry. She's "fierce" like what my gynae said when he first held her. :)
Well, it's not the violent kind of fierce, but more like the strong-willed, competitive, determine and demanding kind.
At this age (and even way before), Sarah has shown much of this "fierce" character, like snatching things from her cheh-cheh and kor-kor, throwing tantrum when she doesnt get what she wants, "kiasu" in terms of getting attention, and she never gives up easily (well, this, a good trait I must say!). However, apart from being fierce, there is a part of her that is "tame" (for lack of better words).
She likes to look good and beautiful. She likes wearing hat on her head and look at the mirror after that. When I wear her a dress and told her she looks nice, she actually smiles! She's really a darling. During her personal play time at home, she would play on her own (with mummy or daddy beside her) and when she finds something amusing to explore, she would give her full attention to it.
Sarah's vocab has been increasing too. I totally lost count of it. She's been learning to combine words like:
"Don't want" - almost over-used in a day! Oh boy....
"Let's go" - she would say this when we're about to go out after wearing shoes, and sometimes when we're in the car and daddy stops the engine.
"Be careful" - she totally imitates me on this. Whenever daddy drives and brakes suddenly, I will say these words to him. Now, Sarah would say this even before I do! :)

REAL Work challenge!

It's been more than 2 weeks since I started with my new job. Some new challenges that I've been exposed to lately has been...
1. Driving! Haha... am still like a "P" driver for now, eventhough I have gotten my license for more than 10 years ago! But praise God my "mati-enjin" experience is reducing slowly but surely. Every time when I had to stop at any toll booth or traffic lights, I would whisper a short prayer... "No mati-enjin please!" :p I did tell hubby during my first few days of driving - We need to change the gear box to auto... PLEASE! But all he said was, "PRACTICE makes PERFECT!" Hmmm... looks like I will be stuck with a manual car for now.
Confidence level on the road has surely increased by now, but I do hope I could improve in my changing of gears as the car do jerk at times when I change gears. (Hehe... here's me telling all you readers about my weakness on the road! Shhh....) I like to speed once I am on the highway, but just today, I experience speeding even in the heart of PJ (of course when there arent many cars around me :p) Infact I have to keep reminding myself that there is no hurry and that I shouldnt be speeding.
2. Remembering routes! Yep, it's not just about getting used to being behind the wheel, but to explore new routes as well! Those who know me inside out will know that this is totally beyond Rachel. I could even get myself lost in places I've been to dozens of times! So far, I drove myself to certain areas of Cheras, Subang, PJ (besides the usual route to church), some busy roads that I often try to avoid and other highways that I've to drive by to go to places and of course back home. I think I have to pat myself on the back for taking the challenge to drive. And I must say "Thank you" to hubby for encouraging me all the way and taking the extra miles to show me the different routes whenever possible. Much stress from both sides, but I learn that nothing comes easy. Thank God for His protection upon me. Though I was afraid, things are working out fine. Praise God!
3. Remembering names! Yes, and that would mean remembering about 100 names of students and possibly their parents as well! I'm not sure how well I could do in this but this would definitely need some time. Hope to be an expert one day (dreaming on...). I heard of some Principals and supervisors (and even teachers) in some other centres who could remember names of all the kids and parents of even up to 300 of them! (Really tabik them la!)
4. It is always a challenge for anyone if that anyone has to start learning everything from scratch. This new job with new tasks is indeed a challenge on its own - a positive challege of course. There are new things for me to learn, to know, to think, to plan, to execute, etc. No doubt, it seems pretty challenging for one like me who has no experience whatsoever in this line to take up this position, but NOTHING IS IMPOSSIBLE, Amen?!
I would also like to praise the Lord that with the knowledge I have in multimedia, it somehow helped to enhance effectiveness in the job - not just for myself, but for my colleagues, the centre and other centres as well. In conclusion, I am happy to be able to apply multimedia in education, where seems to be lacking unfortunately. Thank God for working through me! :)
OK-la... that's all about my job for now... hehe...

Honestly, there seems so much to share (even photos) - but time for blogging is just currently not on my side... for now.

Baby Sarah's Weight & Height - Month 18

After almost 4 months "break" from the visit to the doctor to get Sarah's vaccination done, we thought she would have so-called forgotten about the "agony" she went through when she got her jabs.
Well, we thought wrong! During the last visit, she cried only when she saw the needle. This time, she held me so tightly and cried her lungs out the moment she saw the doctor. In fact, when the doctor's room door was open, she ran away. So, I had to "catch her" and carry her in. She cried when the doctor and nurse wanted to get the measurement of her height & head circumference. She just wouldnt stay still and with all her might, she tried to free herself from being held. Well, she must have really hated the doctor. In fact, she doesnt like any doctor at all. Everytime we visit a doctor when she's not well, she would cry and just wanted us to get out of there a.s.a.p!
OK... so finally she got her 1st boosterTriple/Hib/Polio jab. It took daddy, mummy and the nurse to really pin her down so that the doctor could quickly jab her and get it done. So, yes... because she was really crying her lungs out, doctor gave her more free gifts. Hahaha... I guess, normally the doctor would just give some sachets of milk powder samples to his patients but this time, doctor gave Sarah a free bag from Huggies as well so to cool her down. She immediately stopped crying when she got those freebies in her hands.
Month 18 (15 September 2009)
Weight=11.5kg (+0.61kg)
Height=85cm (+6cm)
Head circumference=45.4cm (+0.9cm)

I'm moving forward...

It's been an interesting journey thus far with my new job. A totally different experience I would say... I also know that I've much to catch up in the coming days, weeks and months as I am new in the company as well as new in my role. I even started driving in my first day of work... (haha... it's about time, Rachel!)... and will continue to drive more as I know it is needed of me to do some travelling where my role is concern. Further more, I will be starting my weekend studies next month. So, yes... I need to drive myself for classes too!

Well, all I can say is everyday is a learning process. I pray for God's guidance upon me in my career. At times I do feel that there is a high expectation of me to soar in this career of mine, and that would definitely take hard work to achieve. I sometimes wonder whether there would be time for me to relax at all... seeing the amount of things I need to know and learn and do at the same time. Well, it would literally be a multitasking job and a test of my ability to perform the best I can. At times, with much passion, I believe I could do it, but there are also times that I question my own capabilities. I guess, it's a norm to feel this way when everything seems so new to me at this moment.
Some things still remain the same, ie... my personal sleeping time and my waking up time (well, slightly later only ler... hehe...) I try to leave home by 7am so that I could reach the centre by 7.30am before duty calls at 8... (still trying. hahaha...). But the best part of all is after work, I get to reach home way before the sunset! :) I could bring Sarah for a walk when I reach home, I could feed her dinner, I could give her a nice bath, etc... somethings that I couldnt do previously. And one last thing, when I have extra time in the morning after preparing self for work, I would try to blog as well (like what I am doing now... :)) So, yes, there is time for everything... Praise God!
I'm praying for God's hands upon me, to help me understand His ways and His plans for me in this new journey I'm in. I do believe that the opportunity before me is great, and the one thing I pray for now is that let my mind be cleared of any doubts - little it may be. Truly, it's a brand new day ahead and gotta look to God and move forward. Above all, I thank the Lord for every thing He has given me. Amen!

Wo wo wo wo wo wo... KFC!

What does this logo look like? Well, just one look, we all know that it is a KFC logo, right?!

One discovery about Sarah is that she recognizes logo too. A few months ago, i think it was about 4-5 months ago, KFC had one advertisement shown on TV to advertise the new Hot & Spicy. It was about a father & son eating KFC while it was raining, and because it was super spicy (supposedly), the father went out to get some 'shower' from the natural rain (something like tht...). At the end of the ad, KFC had this tune on, "wo wo wo wo wo wo..."
Sarah remembered that tune until today. The interesting thing was whenever she sees KFC logo on the street, she will sing the "wo wo wo..." tune! That made me realised that Sarah remembered the ad on TV and the KFC logo too! I think it was rather interesting! Really smart of her to remember such stuff - something that was shown many months ago and she remembers it till today! :)

Sarah's vocabulary increased... & other development (at Month 17)

At 16-17 months old, we noticed our little Sarah's vocab has increased quite drastically. Even more so when she uses the right words at the right time. Some words spoken:

"mmm... nice..."
"close"
"open"
"wake up"
"i want"
"dont want"
"inside"
"outside"
"hot" & "cold"... but sometimes a lil confused between these 2. hehe...
"no more"
"come!!!"... and she will pull my finger/thumb to express that I follow her. Sometimes she says, "laiii..." (ie come in mandarin)
"jump"
"dink", ie drink!
"pain..."
"alright..."
"motorbike"... sometimes sounds like "butterfly" too... :p
"aeroplane"
"biscuit"
"water"
"wash"
and the latest one... "handphone"

Some other development...
When I receive an sms on my handphone, she would insist that I'll read it there and then. Else, she would try with all her might to reach the handphone on the table to pass to me.

She is now a "helper" at home. She would help to throw rubbish into the wastepaper basket for me when I ask her to.

She's been pretty "clean" too, and sometimes "too clean". She has seen me washing her toys in the bathroom. She would then at times take her toy to the bathroom every now and then (whenever I am in the bathroom) and hand me her toys and say, "wash!"

She knows what's "the good, the bad & the ugly"- from watching National Geographic documentary on TV. When she sees a snake or a closed-up shot of an ugly-looking bug, she would frown and say, "ee-yer!" and shake her head... and sometimes she would just look away.

The New Episode of my Career...

I've shared a couple of months back about the one thing in my life right now that I want to do... Many people still wonder what am I gonna do after August. Well, wonder no more as here I am... sharing with you what has taken place and will be taking place in the coming months & maybe years... hehehe...
The history...
My passion for children grew when I first became a mummy. Was that 17 and a half months ago? Well, not quite! It was a gradual thing I must say...
Upon seeing my lil princess grow from one stage to another, eversince a lil baby, I realised how important it was to be with my child, guiding her and teaching her in the ways of the Lord and in ways that I believe could help her excel in the future. There are so many things I learned along the way as a parent as well as an educator to my child.
During this time, I continued my work in the multimedia industry and ministry. However, things at work are just not the same anymore. At first I thought, perhaps I was really getting "old" and couldnt do as much as I could when I was in my 20s... or perhaps I am just too tired of some things... Of course in the midst of all these uncertainties, I began to really think and pray through about what I want to achieve in my life. I've already turned 30 yrs old and I told myself that by the time I reach 35, I shall see greater achievement from the works of my hand. I want to make a difference in wherever I am and whatever I do. (Well, it so happened, during one of the Sunday service, Ps Dexter shared about going through mid-life crisis, and having the need to change to run after the ONE THING in life! It was exactly what I was going through then... talk about timing! :))
To cut the long story short, after much of complaining, considering & weighing the pros & cons, sharing, praying, etc etc etc... I decided that it was early childhood education that I would be venturing into. Looks like a total diversion from my (then) current job, but I believe it was something that drives me to achieve. Upon deciding this, deep within me, there was peace that follows, and of course joy came hand-in-hand with it. Praise the Lord! :)
The journey, for the past 3 months...
Before I gotten any job offers at all, I tendered my resignation in March. I totally surrendered to God to open doors for me that are good and shut whatever that is not. During this time, my superior in the (then) current company graciously gave me time to work (and look for another job) until end of August until the BIG Move project is over.
The job vacancies that were posted to me via Jobstreet were all something that I wasn't keen on. (Sigh!) Week after week, months after months... I was getting a lil anxious if I were to be jobless by September! :o
I went for my very first interview in Cosmotots in June, but seeing that I was only available in Sept, they gave me the one-kind-look, saying that they need people urgently and will contact me if they still have vacancy by then. I wasn't really keen on the job too - something that I didnt expect as early childhood educator (since Cosmotots iqd is more like a child enrichment center, emphasizing on the English language).
At the same time, a big big thank you to Danie who got me connected to Real Education Group. I was already in touch with the GM, Esther, via email and phone before meeting her up in July. I first took the personality test and then went on with the interview sessions. The interview with Esther went on for a good 2 hours and I was given the job offer there and then. Not sure what she saw in me but I was offered a job as a management trainee even though I do not have any experience in teaching or in any kindies prior to this. It was amazing how the Lord moves so quickly - beyond my expectation! 3 weeks later, they arrange for me to meet with the Executive Director, Mr Ee. We chatted for almost 2 hours as well and Mr Ee shared to me the company's vision as well as the options for my career path in the company. Wow! I was totally overwhelmed by the opportunities that were laid before me. Praise God for His hands upon me!
The journey, in the coming days... & the destination...
I will be starting my new job on 8th September as an acting Supervisor in one of the kindies in R.E.A.L Kids. I was told that I will also be teaching some subjects, ie music & computer (Looks like these 2 will never depart from me. Hehehe...). A month from now, I will also start the weekend course with UM to get my Professional Diploma in Early Childhood Education. It's never too late to start studying (again!). It was never something I thought of doing at all, but I guess this ONE THING that I want to do in my life right now is something that I believe the Lord is calling me to do.
The destination? Well, I hope I can share this with everyone how certain I am where this is leading me, but I think I could only hope for certain things at a certain time... Perhaps I will be a Principal one day and manage a centre (or more centres), or perhaps I will be a curriculum developer, or a teacher. Whatever I am, I pray for God's leading and that I will be someone who will bring impact and make a difference... in the place God wants me to be! Amen!

Back to blogging!

Yippie! I got some free time now, since Sarah's asleep... :)

It's been a crazy week last week, until the weekend. Malaysia celebrated Merdeka yesterday, and me? I'm now officially celebrating my Merdeka as well! LOL!

Last Friday was my official last day at work in Mediaworks. During the weekend, it was more like busy serving in the ministry, plus trying to handover some work to my successor, erm... so-called successor la. Hehe... However, sad to say, I couldnt do a proper handover last weekend as we were all super duper busy trying to get things prepared and going for the conference which was held on Sat - Mon. This week is my "rest" week... but again, I shall say, it's a so-called rest week as i'll be spending some time this week to handover my tasks properly (as much as I possibly can). Have to do much of transfer of my personal files (& movie files... hehehe...) from my working harddisk to my personal harddisk, do some calling & emailing to suppliers, etc.. thank God much of work are done online... so, i know i can do stuff from the comfort of my own home (provided Sarah's in dreamland of course!). i certainly have to get myself used to hubby's laptop since the macbook i've been using has been given back to the company. Hehe... Other than that, i'm preparing myself for my new job. Yep... u heard it right! Will share more about this new job in my next post! So stay tuned for the next episode of my career.... :)

Time out from blogging...

This is to announce that I'll be away from blogging for a while until I settle my handover in my current workplace.

There is so little time yet so much to do, but praying that all things will work out great at the end of the day. I used to set some time to blog (if possible) before the start of the day and sometimes during lunch :p but for now, my priority is not here, so....

Adios! :)

Being a full time stay-at-home Mom...

Well, well, well.... what can I say about this?

First day was quite alright.... I gave her my full attention - played with her, watch TV with her, eat together, etc... It was only when she had her morning and afternoon nap that I had time on my own to do things, but I could only spend those short hours doing laundry, cooking, have a quick bite, clear house mess, check emails, etc... (Really not much time actually...)

Second day? I thought i'd do something a lil different... "Kill 2 birds with 1 stone!" I know that as long as mummy is near her, she will be able to play on her own (just knowing that I'm there... - well, that's what I thought). She was alright only for a short while. After that short while, she demanded 101% of my attention. As she played on her own, I decided to do laundry (2nd half), clear the dishes, manage my personal billing and filing, glue her torn books, surf the net (on how to discipline toddlers! :p), etc... unfortunately, it wasn't as easy as I thought... It was rather difficult as she kept wanting me to play with her. I managed to divert her attention to different toys many times but almost all the time, it lasted only for a short 5 minutes. I asked her, "You want mummy to play with you?", and she kept nodding her head.

Some incidences...
When she saw me with my pen and my organisor, she would place her hand onto my pen and thinking she was playing with me (as I write...). Then I decided to sit at the table. She demanded my attention at first by crying and holding on to me, but I kept telling her to play on her own... So, finally she got my message, but unfortunately, she was doing things like throwing toys all around the house, tear her books, etc... It seemed that all she wanted was my attention and nothing else!

It's a different stress being a stay-at-home mum & a working mum... It was challenging - really really challenging! I was mad at her for tearing the book (because I just glued it back!). I felt at that moment my blood pressure went up! I scolded her and did some "time out" with her. No TV, no toys, no "pao-pao" (carrying), no this & that... Looks like it didn't work out too. It seemed that she understood my intention. She knew I was angry. She was even scared to look at my eye. But her rebelliousness seemed pretty dominant. I was praying that I would continue to keep my cool, because it was really difficult to discipline a child when a parent is as mad as I was yesterday! I tried a few methods on my own - scolding her, explaining to her, ignoring her, crying out loud (she looked at me and sayang me (funny!)), sighing out loud... etc. I'm not sure what method is best at the moment. Different child, different method... :-/ Looks like more homework for me to know what suits my girl.

I will be doing more research on this... I think Sarah will be my "guinea pig" in my research... I know that kids her age has no limits in exploring, but what's the limits of us parents? I've found some really good sites on disciplining toddlers, but have yet to put more time & attention on it.... once I've got some extra time that is.

Alright, till then...

Monday @ home...

I'll be a full time stay-at-home mum today and tomorrow because MIL has gone with FIL for their church camp since Sunday. So, when MIL is "on-leave", I have to be on leave too.

This week is supposed to be the busiest week for me and my fellow colleagues as the office is in the midst of moving. I know I wont be totally off from work these 2 days. It started already at 7+am that I had to check emails and reply some emails to get some work going... However, I must say that it's not easy to work from home especially when I have one active little toddler to look after at the same time.

She has finally gone to sleep and connection fr macbook is more stable now... so here I go with the first post of the week. I do hope I will have more time to blog my days, but we'll see... it's not a priority at the moment, but we'll see.... :p

More teeth for Sarah...

Last night, I discovered Sarah's upper teeth are growing more in numbers - 2 canine and another 2 first molars!

WOW! She's really growing fast. The total number of teeth she has now is 14!

Read previous post here.

[Article] Kids & Multivitamins

by Tracy Lew, Corporate Nutrition Advisor, Nestlé

"While a properly balanced diet should be enough for your child’s daily needs, providing additional nutrients can help make a difference in case of a deficiency."

We all know that growing children need the right vitamins and minerals to support their proper growth and development. Certain nutrient-specific foods like milk and some vegetables are highly recommended for kids, and parents are constantly looking for ways to include these in their child’s meals.

Although already aware of what your child needs, as a caring and responsible parent you may have noticed the many advertisements for multivitamins for kids and have asked yourself: “Does my child really need multivitamins?”

The role of multivitamins

Ideally, the normal food your child eats would always be healthy and nutritious, providing all the necessary vitamins and minerals he needs to grow up healthy and strong.

But the reality is that so many factors – from physiological to environmental - may affect your child’s growth that it is understandable for parents to worry if the nutrition regular food provides is enough. While a properly balanced diet should be enough for your child’s daily needs, providing additional nutrients can help make a difference in case of a deficiency.

When considering giving your child additional nutrients, here are a few things to remember:

- Giving your child a balanced diet is the best way to ensure he gets the vitamins, minerals and nutrients needed for proper growth
- Multivitamins are only meant to supplement a balanced diet, and should never replace healthy food
- Consider giving your child enriched foods, which provide additional nutrients in a more natural manner
- Formulated milk is a good way to help ensure your toddler gets the right nutrition during the weaning years when his dietary needs change
- Always consult your doctor, nutritionist or dietician before giving multivitamins to your child

Farewell to me @ LRM...

Farewell lunch for me was at least 3 weeks before my last day at work. Pretty early, huh?! Hehehe...

Pastor Dexter was leaving for Melbourne for a few weeks until end of August so they wanted to have an early farewell for me.

We had our lunch in Brussels Beer Cafe @ Jaya One on 7th August. Err... no, we didn't have beer that day... ! Hahaha!

A BIG "Thank You" to Ps Dexter, CEO Elijah & wifey Sarah, sifu Andrew, accountant Iris, designer Caleb, kiddo Olivia & guest of honor - gwamma Stephanie for the lunch. I wish I had prepared a speech that day, but I did not. (Har! Har!) There were so much to say, yet unsure of what to say at the same time... I wish I could tell each and every one of them how grateful I am having them in my life (seriously!) & being a part of my journey at work here in Latter Rain Mediaworks. It's been many years working here. The knowledge, the guidance, the exposure, the fun times & the hard times (uhuh!) are beyond measure.

Some random shots just outside the theater @ J1...
Top-left: Pretty Sarah :)
Bottom-left: Don't ask me what Oli was doing... hmmm... LOL!

Well, with the limitations of my camera (+ I have not read my camera manual book yet... :p) and with very little lighting, this is the best shot of all... even though it's a lil blur... :)

Picture (from left to right): Iris, Caleb, Ps Dexter, me, Andrew, Olivia, Gwamma, Elijah & Sarah

Pastor Dexter once told me that wherever I go and in whatever I do, even though there were times (since college days) that I felt as though I was "wasting my time" and uncertain of where I am going and what I am doing, it was NEVER wasted. Those were treasured moments of learning & that the time will come when I will use these treasures of knowledge in places where God will one day lead me to.

I would like to dedicate this post to my bosses & colleagues too... These TQs are for your eyes only (Har! Har! Yeah... right!)

Ps Dexter,
thank you for praying for me, for guiding me and for teaching me what's important in life. Thank you for encouraging me at all times to run towards the prize & being excellent in everything I do for His glory. Thank you for being my father on earth. On the day my daddy passed away, you told me that you'll always be there for me whenever I need an earthly father to go to. Thank you for accepting me. Thank you for loving me.

Elijah,
thank you for being the boss who trusted me... sometimes trusted me too much! (Haha!) Thank you for giving me opportunities to expand my wings in the organization, and now for blessing me to expand further to where my passion leads. Thank you for sharing your knowledge to me in all my years under your leadership. Being pioneers of many things in the church and the business made me see what it takes for one to be a leader. Thank you for this opportunity to learn to be one.

Andrew,
i thank God for bringing you into my life as a "sifu", though it was only for a short while. It has only been slightly more than a year that I knew you but you were truly a catalyst for change - in the organization and in my life. You are a great listener & a great encourager, I must say. You told me to run after my dreams - what I am passionate for. In fact, for the past many months, you reminded me what I sometimes forgot... my passion. Thank you for being a "big" brother to me... for "scolding" me in a very very nice way.
Thank you, thank you, thank you... :)

Cho Hon aka Iris,
thank you for being my colleague and most importantly, for being a friend to me. Thank you for the great times shared when we not just talk about work, but about God, personality, health and about life as a whole. I sometimes take for granted these precious moments I have with friends (dear me!). Thank you also for helping me understand what it's like being in a "corporate world" though sometimes I do feel I am still in a "coconut shell" like in that malay-saying "katak di bawah tempurung". Hehe...
Thank you for sharing with me what I ought to learn being "out there"! :)

Faith,
you're a person full of faith! Ho ho ho! Yes, you are! That's one most important thing that I learned from you - your ever faithful spirit in your walk with the Lord. There were times when I saw you through the glass window, reading the Word before the start of each new day. That is something I know I've been missing in many many days of my life, but i thank you for reminding me that we are all stewards of God, even in the business world. Thank you for showing me what it takes to be good stewards of God.

Caleb,
you became my colleague for only about half a year, though knowing you for such a long time already. It still feels rather weird to be called "colleagues" :)
Thank you for joining in at the time when your "service" is definitely much needed in the organisation. It gave me the opportunity to sit back (and relax?) and pray through what I really want to do in life. Hehe... I guess God knows when to bring the right people in at the right time in our lives. Thank you for being one of them! It's a great blessing indeed!
Remember to keep talking crap at work! It's good for your soul! Hehehe...

Olivia - the kiddo... :D
well, i didn't really want to call you this, but since everyone else calls you that... so....... :)
you're a great kiddo to be with, who lightens up the days of those around you! *cheers*

Let's see... you taught me this: o.O and this: -.-' and this: -.-" online...
... that speaks a lot about being a kiddo right? LOL!
Thank you for being there for me during the critical times of my life (@work).
Firstly, the Lord sent you to help me around in office during my pregnancy. That's a great blessing for me as we all know pregnant ladies shouldn't be doing the hard work (if possible!)... :) and then you took my place at work during my confinement months (it's indeed a great timing, ya?!)...
Secondly, He sent you here when He knows it's time for me to move on... (double blessing!) Thank you, Oli... for everything. You've really been a blessing to me. And sometimes, you just can't believe it, right? Well, i guess i need to knock your head harder to tell you, "YES! You're a Blessing! Don't doubt that!"
I know you can sore very high in where the Lord calls you to be. Don't limit yourself as you know God is an unlimited God! You're young & you're a very capable person. Fly as high as you can go because the Lord is with you.
"Keep Moving Forward!" :)

Above all, I thank God for every moments of good and bad that I've experienced in all my years of working here. It's truly by God's grace that I am what I am today. I pray that He will continue to guide me and lead me to places He wants me to shine... Shine for His glory because I know without Him, I am truly nothing.

Sarah & her body parts...

Last night before bedtime, Sarah chose the book "Me and My Amazing Body" for reading. She's already very familiar with most of the body parts, so this round, mummy decided that perhaps she would like to learn more about the parts of her body that cannot be seen.

New words for the day: brain, heart & lungs!

"Where's Sarah's brain?" and she then pointed to her head.

"Where's Sarah's heart?" and she pointed to her heart and says, "dub dab! dub dab! dub dab!" Hehehe... :)

This was really funny... I couldn't stop laughing hearing what she said.
She pointed at the picture of the lungs and said, "butterfly!" LOL! :)

Har???!

Last night, Sarah & daddy spent some minutes of reading before sleeping. One of Sarah's favourite book is the fun flip book.

Sarah tore some parts of the book and daddy asked her, "Why you tear the book??" Sarah replied, "Har???!" (pretending not to look at you and with a naughty smile!) and daddy repeated the question over and over again (almost more than 10x), and Sarah replied the same!!!

Oh boy... she was so playful that it was at times difficult to discipline her. Her response was kinda cute as it never came across our minds how she reacts to situations like these... It just seemed so spontaneous of her to react as such!

Crocodile or Hippo?

When we were at Ikea, where Sarah spent most her time playing at the waiting area, there were many of "these" hung on the ceiling....What do you think this is?

Sarah pointed at those and said "crocodile!"

Daddy, on the other hand, insisted it was "hippo!"

I disagree with daddy, and told Sarah she was right! Hmm... Anyway, I was browsing Ikea's website this morning and found out that both Sarah & mummy are right! LOL!

Hey daddy, it IS a CROCODILE! Eventhough it is a stuff toy and can be different in color (depending on the designer...), they can't fool kids! Daddy said it was a "green hippo"... Hehehe.... But i dont think they will change the "main" color of the animal just because it is "a design"...

Take for example... pink = pig, green = crocodile, brown = bear/dog, yellow = duck, etc.... ;o)

[+video] My weekend...

Well, i didn't really achieve as much as I hoped for (from my TO-DO list) last weekend... BUT... i didn't feel that something was missing. Praise God! I guess my heart was quite settled, compared to previous weekend. I was able to rest (physically, mentally & emotionally). Thanks to hubby for taking care of Sarah when I had to sleep during the afternoons. It was a relaxing weekend (kinda...), but i guess the main thing achieved was having to spend time with Sarah & daddy, and also manage to do some shopping at Ikea... :p

Sarah was happily playing on her own until...

Well, I guess from here, we can see that she's pretty adaptable to having new friends!

Sarah... busy as a bee @ home...

The cute pink jumper was a gift from Uncle Kenny & Aunt Rebecca for her 1st birthday!
She loves wearing it because she knows she looks pretty & cute in it! Hahaha... :)
